Salt Ritual to be used in a Wedding Ceremony

Man has long considered salt to be a pure substance and representative of good luck.

During ancient times, agreements and promises were sealed by a salt covenant. Each person would take a pinch of salt from their pouch and place it in the pouch of the other. By mixing the salt together it symbolised two lives being intertwined and inseparable. This agreement could not be broken unless an individual could seperate their own grains of salt.

bride and groom take out (maybe groom could have them in his pocket or we could have them waiting on the signing table or an appointed one could hand them over) your individual pouches of salt and as I say each section you take a pinch of salt from your pouch and place it in the other’s pouch,,,give it a little shake each time.

Mary; Salt adds flavour and today by joining two unique flavours we are magnifying the zeal for life.

Mary; Salt is a preservative—and so it is suggestive of a long-lasting marriage.

Mary; It melts ice—it is hoped that your relationship will never get frosty, if so throw some salt on the other….(haha)

Mary; Just as salt adds zest to food it adds zest to your relationship.

Mary; Salt is a purifier and is representative of openness and clear communication.

Mary; As salt is an essential mineral in our well being your trust, openness and honesty are essential elements in your relationship.

By combining your salt your commitment to each other cannot be undone unless you can each retrieve your own grains of salt. Since this is not possible, this ceremony is a symbol of an unbreakable vow of love.
